Personal Statement:

On many occasions the use of a tape recorder during an interview causes stress and discomfort to a witness and may inhibit their statements. In order to put the witness at ease and assure the accuracy of a report, having a second set of eyes and ears, taking near verbatim notes may be the only avenue to acquiring a record of a witness statement. Sex crimes are often of a sensitive nature. The presence of a female can provide a measure of comfort for the victim/witness who may be reluctant to speak with a male investigator.
